Week 48: Ingleside Pizza

This week, we felt like getting some pizza. With only a few more local pizza places left, we ventured to Macon and hit up Ingleside Pizza, located just outside of Downtown Macon on Ingleside Drive. Hillarie used to go here when she lived in Macon in the early 00’s, but hasn’t been back since. Since that time, they opened in a new location right across the street from their old one, and a second location by Mercer University. I should mention that Ingleside is not your average pizza place. It is very hard to describe the atmosphere there, but it looks very much like a college hangout. You’ll find all kinds of decor on the walls, and can spend your time absorbing it all in while you wait for your meal.

Week 47: Market City Cafe

It’s had been a few weeks since we had traveled to downtown Macon to try out a new place. We decided to check out Market City Cafe. We were in the mood for some sweets after going a couple of weeks without one in the blog and Hillarie had heard good things about their famous Banana Pudding. Not for the first time since we started the blog, we brought a couple friends along so we could purview more of the selections. Let’s see how we fared…

Week 46: Snellgrove Seafood

Snellgrove Seafood is an interesting little place located in Centerville on Houston Lake Rd. The restaurant itself is actually an extension of an existing home. It appears as if the more business they got, the more they expanded out. Hillarie has been chomping at the bit to try them out, and I finally caved in. She loves seafood a lot more than I do, but I’m a sucker for hush puppies. Let’s see what we got.

Week 44: Zen

One of the nice things about dining out at local restaurants is you get to go back and experience those you haven’t gone to in a while. This week we visited Zen, which is a Japanese Hibachi style steakhouse. Hibachi style means you are seated around a grill with several other people and watch the cook make your food right in front of you. The cooks put on quite a show, especially if there are children present. The skill of the cooks is outstanding and if you’ve never seen one, I do recommend going to one near you. However, once you’ve seen it, it really isn’t different any other time. So like a decent movie, you may only get the thrill and enjoyment out of it the first time. We’ve done the hibachi grill so many other times, we decided to just get a standard table and order off the menu.

Week 43: Dolce Vita

If I could give you an example of one benefit this blog has brought to us, I think my first notion is to say “Downtown Macon”. Matt and I have dined at several downtown establishments this year and have been pleased with each one. Yes, there was an issue with service at one, but the owner has actually replied via the blog to address that concern and so I can’t say anything negative. A couple we may never return to, but I’ve already made return trips several times to The Rookery, and we know we want to go back to a few others as well. Dolce Vita is one that we’ve been to once this year before, but just for sweets and we didn’t include it in the blog at that time. So, we took a trip explicitly to have a full meal for proper blogging. Continue reading
